Rules of the Road
- Be predictable to other drivers – Avoid sudden actions
- Wear brightly colored clothing for improved visibility
- Wear a helmet that fits securely
- Do not wear headphones
- Stay together as a group – it’s not a race!
- Obey all traffic laws
- Use hand signals to communicate turns and stops
- Ride with traffic
- Stay as far to the right as possible, with no more than two bikes abreast
- Pass only on left and announce passing to other riders
- Watch for cars at intersections and driveways, including turning vehicles
- Watch for car doors when passing parked cars
- Watch for road hazards (glass, potholes, manholes)
- Shout out road hazards to warn other cyclists
- Ride friendly and be aware of traffic conditions
- Secure your bike and belongings with a lock
We recommend that all riders carry a spare tube, tire levers, pump, and multitool.
If the need for bike repairs should arise, never leave anyone alone on the route.
