The Center for Creative eXchange is for practical purposes an artist and writer residency in the making which operates through a method of thinking holistically and implementing a sustainable system through its functions and programming.

Our Artist-In-Residence program is a four month long program culminating with an on-site exhibition. These exhibitions may travel to (and exchange exhibitions with) other residency programs as well. During the residency, artists and writers are asked to interact with the community. This could include workshops and lectures. This four month period is a length of time which allows for a meaningful absorption and reaction to Detroit and its community without stagnation. There will be two or three artists/writers in residence at a time and two residency periods per year.

In addition to artists- and writers-in-residence working independently at the Center, our programming invites proposals for collaborations between artists and writers. We encourage this for our future book-making, paper-arts facilities.
